How Is SPED Tutoring Different From Regular Tutoring?

How Is SPED Tutoring Different From Regular Tutoring?

Standard tutoring assumes a student learned the material once and needs it reinforced. For a child with an IEP, that assumption usually does not hold — you cannot reinforce something that was never built. Every session here is individualized around the specific goals and areas of need already written into your child’s document, so the work in the session and the plan on paper point in the same direction.

What Do Tutoring Sessions Actually Cover?

Sessions are shaped by what your child actually needs, and may include addressing specific IEP goals and academic areas of need, using the accommodations and instructional strategies your child is entitled to, test and quiz preparation, study skills and assignment support, and specialized SPED techniques and modifications. Most families combine several of these rather than picking one.

What If My Child Has Given Up On School?

A child who has struggled for years carries more than a skills gap. They carry a belief about themselves, and it is usually harsher than anything an adult would say out loud. A student who expects to fail stops trying long before ability runs out. Building confidence and independence is treated as part of the instruction here, not as an afterthought.

When Sessions Run

Tutoring runs Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again 7:00 to 9:00 PM, plus Friday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The morning block suits homeschool students and children on partial-day placements. The evening block exists for working parents, because tutoring only helps if it actually happens. Evening and Saturday slots fill first.

$125 per hour, billed hourly. There is no package requirement, so you book only the hours your situation calls for.

All sessions are virtual. That keeps support available regardless of where your family lives and removes travel time from both ends.

No. The approach is built around special education needs, but a formal IEP is not a requirement for tutoring.

Most students see steady progress with one or two sessions a week. Consistency matters more than volume — a weekly session held for six months beats three a week for three weeks.
