The School Promised Support. Why Isn't It Happening?
“We will keep an eye on that” is not a service. “We usually do that anyway” is not a service. In a large system, teachers change, terms turn over, and the adult who understood your child’s situation gets reassigned. A support that exists only as goodwill will eventually disappear, usually at the worst possible moment.
How Should An Accommodation Be Worded?
The supports that survive are precise, low-friction, and clear enough that a teacher who has never met your child could implement them on day one. “Provide extra support as needed” fails every one of those tests and remains one of the most common phrases in these documents. Reviewing the wording before you agree to it is where this gets fixed.
What Times Are Available From New York?
The morning block runs 12:00 to 3:00 PM Eastern and the Friday block 1:00 to 8:00 PM Eastern, both of which work well for document review and preparation. Saturdays fall at 1:00 to 4:00 PM Eastern. The evening block lands at 10:00 PM Eastern, which is impractical, and it is not recommended.
